Where to Go From Here
This page is a doorway rather than a destination. If you already know the subject you want, go straight to it: State Pillows for all fifty, College Pillows for more than eighty schools, City Pillows for skylines and landmarks, National Park Pillows for the parks, Geography Pillows for maps and regions, and Zodiac Pillows for the twelve signs. Each of those pages carries the full range for its subject.
Why Embroidery for These Subjects
Embroidery on cotton is the right technique for anything that has to be legible: a state outline, a campus landmark, a skyline, a set of words. Needlepoint fills a whole canvas and hooked wool works in loops, so both are better at pattern than at line. Embroidery draws. That is why the personal and place-based designs across this site are embroidered and the florals and animals tend not to be.
Organic Cotton, and What That Changes
The ground cloth here is organic cotton rather than wool canvas. It is lighter, it breathes, and it sits differently on a bed or a reading chair than a dense wool needlepoint does. It is also the more forgiving choice in a warm room or a sunny one. The tradeoff is that cotton takes wear faster than wool over decades, which is why we still point people toward needlepoint for the true heirloom purchase and toward embroidery for the piece that is about a place, a school, or a person.
Buying These as Gifts
Embroidered pieces are the ones that get given. An alma mater, a home state, the park somebody proposed in, the city they moved away from. They work as gifts because they are specific, and specific is hard to buy. Every cover has a zippered back and arrives with a poly insert included, so nothing needs assembling. Most orders ship within 1 to 2 business days, and orders over $79 ship free within the continental US.
