FAQ

Our Pillows and How They Are Made

What is the difference between needlepoint, hooked, and embroidered pillows?

Needlepoint fills a canvas completely with fine wool stitches for a smooth, detailed surface. Hooked pillows pull wool loops up through a backing for raised, dimensional texture. Embroidery stitches a design onto cotton, leaving fabric visible, crisp and illustrative.

Are your pillows really handmade?

Most are. Needlepoint designs are hand-stitched in 100% wool, hooked pillows are pulled loop by loop, and embroidered designs are hand-stitched on organic cotton. A small group of festive designs is printed for a lighter price point and always marked "Printed" in the product name.

What are the pillows made of?

Needlepoint and hooked designs are wool with cotton velvet zippered backs. Embroidered designs are stitched on organic cotton. A polyester insert is included with every pillow; a down fill insert is offered as a paid upgrade on select designs, mainly the needlepoint line.

Do pillows come with inserts?

Yes, every pillow ships with a polyester insert included. Select designs offer a down fill upgrade on the product page. Covers have zippered or button backs, so you can swap or remove inserts anytime.

Are the colors on the website accurate?

Close, with the usual screen caveat. We photograph pillows in natural light without heavy filtering, but monitors vary, and wool and cotton yarns have natural depth that tends to look richer in person. If color matters to the inch, contact us and we will describe the piece honestly.

Care and Cleaning

How do I clean a needlepoint or embroidered pillow?

Dry clean when needed, ideally with a cleaner experienced in wool textiles. Between cleanings, vacuum gently with an upholstery attachment once a season. Never machine wash; agitation stresses stitching long before it cleans anything.

How do I clean a hooked wool pillow?

Spot clean only, always. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth, follow with cool water and a drop of mild soap if needed, and air dry. Never machine wash or dry clean a hooked pillow; both can pull and distort the loops.

How should I store seasonal pillows?

Clean and completely dry, in a breathable cotton bag rather than sealed plastic, rolled or flat but never folded, somewhere with stable temperature. A closet beats an attic or basement. Stored that way, holiday pillows come back out crisp for decades.

Can I fix a snag on a hooked pillow?

Usually, yes. Do not cut or pull the loop. Ease it back through to the front with a crochet hook or blunt needle and even it gently against its neighbors. If a piece needs more help, contact us before attempting anything bigger.

Sizing and Styling

What size pillow should I buy?

For sofas: 18 to 20 inch squares at the corners, smaller accents or a lumbar in front. Chairs take one 16 to 20 inch piece. Beds like one statement lumbar or a pair of squares against sleeping pillows. Every product page lists exact dimensions.

What is the 2-2-1 pillow rule?

A reliable sofa formula: two larger squares at the corners, two mid-size pillows in front of them, one lumbar or accent in the center. It gives depth without crowding. Vary texture as well as size; one hooked piece against smoother needlepoint keeps the arrangement from flattening.

How do I mix handmade pillows with what I already own?

Let one detailed piece lead, support it with solids and texture, and repeat one of its colors somewhere else in the room. Handmade pillows read as collected, so they sit comfortably next to store-bought basics.

Ordering, Shipping and Returns

How much is shipping?

Free shipping on continental U.S. orders over $79. Orders under $79 ship for a $9.95 flat rate. Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories ship at a flat $19.95 regardless of order total. We ship within the United States and its territories only.

How fast do orders ship?

Most orders ship within 1 to 2 business days. After that, delivery usually runs 3 to 5 business days in the lower 48 and 5 to 8 to Alaska and Hawaii. Made-to-order XL designs take longer, and product pages state current lead times before you buy.

What is your return policy?

Most items can be returned within 30 days of receipt, new, unused, and in original packaging. Full details on the returns policy page. If something arrives wrong or damaged, contact us first and we will fix it.

Can I ship a pillow as a gift?

Yes, ship directly to the recipient by entering their address at checkout. Pillows arrive gift-ready with inserts included. We do not offer gift wrap or gift notes at this time, so if you want to include a message, a card sent separately is the way to go.

I am looking for a state, school, or design you do not list.

Ask. The catalog runs deeper than any one collection page, new designs land regularly, and if a school or town is coming soon we will tell you honestly rather than guess.
